Storm Damage

After a storm, find out what actually happened to your roof

Hail and high winds can damage a roof in ways that are hard to see from the ground. An inspection tells you whether there's real damage, how much, and what your options are — so you can decide what to do next with the facts in hand.

What storm damage can look like

Hail can bruise shingles, knock off granules, crack the mat underneath, and dent metal vents, flashing, and gutters. Some hits look minor but weaken the shingle so it wears faster.

Wind can lift, crease, or tear off shingles, break the seal that holds them flat, and loosen flashing and ridge caps. A shingle that was lifted and fell back into place can still be damaged.

Fallen limbs and debris can puncture the roof or damage decking.

What an inspection can establish

  • Whether there is damage consistent with hail or wind, and where it is.
  • How widespread it is — a few isolated spots or across multiple slopes.
  • Whether there’s an active or likely leak that needs temporary protection.
  • What a reasonable repair or replacement scope would look like.

We document our findings with photos. That record is useful whether you decide to repair, replace, or talk to your insurance company.

What it can’t promise

An inspection describes the condition of your roof. It doesn’t decide insurance coverage — your insurer does that under your policy. We won’t tell you a claim will be approved, and we won’t call wear and tear “storm damage.”

If you have an active leak

Tell us when you get in touch. Limiting water damage comes first; the inspection and estimate can follow.

FAQ

Storm Damage: common questions

Should I call my insurance company or a roofer first?

Many homeowners find it helpful to have the roof inspected first so they know whether there's damage worth reporting. Every policy is different, so review yours and contact your insurer with any questions about reporting deadlines or coverage.

Can you guarantee my claim will be approved?

No one can honestly promise that. Coverage decisions are made by your insurance company based on your policy and their adjuster's findings. We inspect, document, and explain what we see — and if there isn't meaningful storm damage, we'll tell you.

How soon after a storm should I have the roof checked?

Sooner is better. Some damage gets worse over time, and policies often have time limits for reporting. If you have an active leak, tell us when you contact us so we can discuss temporary protection.

The roof looks fine from the ground. Could it still be damaged?

Yes. Hail bruising and lifted or creased shingles are often only visible up close. That's why a hands-on inspection is more reliable than a look from the yard.
